Yes, when something breaks off, the vehicle will automatically regenerate a new piece, depending on your charging speed. In all seriousness, yes, there will be some type of regenerative braking, but the details are scarce.

In several videos that can found online, Rivian officials have stated the batteries will be incased In a Kevlar, ballistic type case that they have tested by dropping the vehicle from 2ft high on a sharp object to simulate rock and/or extreme conditions with no degradation.

No need to apologize- For every pro-Tesla article or video out there, there are 10+ negative ones. It's the nature of the beast and Rivian is not immune to it. I'm cheering for them- as I would any new-comer, to bring more competition to the market and give the consumer more options. I really am anxious about getting my hands on one so I can see if all the hype is real!

I had a hard time watching this video. Very choppy and poorly put together, in my opinion. He does bring up some valid points, but I haven’t heard of thermal runaway in any EV in several years and I’d be willing to bet that Rivian (like any technology company) is not going to reveal their entire process for any part of the vehicle production. That’s just common sense.

I don’t think anyone other than Rivian has the actual answer, but the way I understand it is the vehicle has 4 motors (1/wheel assembly) which will be computer controlled so as if there is any slippage on one wheel, then the others will continue to spin. Possibly generating additional torque to the “contact” wheels, but that’s just a guess.

@John Marshall I suggest watching/reading thier social media outlets for announcements. They are pretty active on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. With that being said, they usually don’t announce anything until a few days in advance. You can also sign up for emails through their website, but I’m not sure that‘s the fastest way to hear anything news worthy.

I'm leaning towards the R1S to replace my Expedition EL, but then again, I might choose the R1T for something different. I have a nearly 20 year old F150 that I use a couple of times a month. It squeaks, it leaks, and it has some odd odors, but I love it. I could care less about what I throw in the back or whether or not something scratches it. I can't say that I would have the same feelings after spending $70k or more for another pickup. I need a daily driver, but I also want something I can get dirty and not worry about spilling something in. I realize the Tesla pickup is still conceptual, and no one, other than a few select designers and a CEO, know what it's going to look like. Even if it's a F350-F550 size, that would definitely not fit in most garages and I don't see people spending $100k+ on a vehicle to leave it out in the elements 24hrs a day. Just my opinion. If it's more along the lines of a F150, then we can talk, but I don't want to wait another 2-3 years before it's available. I fully support Tesla and I want them to succeed, but I'm also all about some competition. If Rivian delivers either one of their vehicles somewhat ontime (mid-2020) with the already announced specs, then they could be the next Model 3 game-changer of SUV's.

After driving a Model X for a few months, I was set on buying the Truck when it came out. However, based on the tweets from Elon and some of the artist‘s renditions, I’m not sure the Tesla truck is what I want. granted, everything is speculation, but I need the vehicle to fit in my garage and not be absurdly different, yet still perform as a truck. Thus, I’m planning on either the R1S, R1T or both. We’ll see. Hopefully the Tesla Truck won’t be the size of the Semi so it will be more of a mainstream truck as opposed to the gladiator type that Elon has hinted at.

What is that a map of? If it’s the supercharger network, it must be from 3-4 years ago, or possibly more. Using a quick search on Plugshare shows multiple charging outlets within your circle, so I’m not sure what this is.

Pre-ordered both. Didn’t want to have to decide. 😀
